Amy’s Turkey season 2024

If they ain’t talking, we walking, was the name of the game as I tagged out with only 3 days to go for 2024 Spring turkey. This bird was not my first pennsyltucky gobbler, not my biggest, not my prettiest but damn sure it was my most accomplished. This year I set out to call one in on my own…the off season was full of practicing the call while driving and listening to podcasts and videos. As season rolled in, self- doubt had to be hung out to dry and determination took over. Time is limited, when holding it down with 2 jobs 40+ hours a week and studying for a new career path. Consistency was key, every morning when time was available my boots hit the ground and I was out. I kept saying to myself as I would walk out the woods empty handed once again, “just don’t let your guard down.” My Garmin tracked me over 20 miles this season in and out of the public lands of western PA, fighting the “Randys”, pushing through the weather and most importantly learning another lesson, thanks to this bird. With a little help from my friends… especially Luke , Cody , Stacey and the girls from @huntindix I wouldn’t of been able to accomplish one of the biggest goals that I set out to achieve. I was told that once you get the itch of turkey hunting it will drive you crazy but damn was that an understatement.  As I walked out of the woods thinking it was another bust there strutted 3 birds 100 yards from my truck, I backed my ass up against a tree and called… holy shit, I thought to myself its working, they aren’t talking but they are coming hot. It didn’t take less than 10 minutes I had one down from 30 yards and calling @lukeickes to tell him the news. I descended the mountain with tears in my eyes as the texted poured in. I did it…

Hunting has given me the ability to change the person that I am for the better. Between the dogs running for birds and the opportunities to draw back on a whitetail deer and now learning how to call turkeys… this community of support and love, holding me up on days that sometimes don’t seem worth it. Yall, are something else. My circle is strong and the times in the woods and fields are some the best days I will ever have. To be able to share those times with these humans or just by myself. It’s the realest love I’ve felt.

Dog training and fine tuning is up next headed into the summer months… lord knows we have a busy fall and it will be time to grind again. Be safe and get out there. Time to train… XoXo, Amy
